Valve announces new OLED Steam Deck

Steam Deck OLED

Highlights include a new OLED screen and improved battery life for the popular Steam Deck device

Valve unveiled an upgraded Steam Deck today with an OLED display and an improved battery.

"Thanks to a bigger fan and updated thermals, Steam Deck OLED runs cooler. It also weighs 30g, or ~5% lighter than the LCD model, due to the screen," Valve said on the Steam Deck OLED page.

The original Steam Deck, which launched in February of 2022, features a 60Hz 7" LCD screen while the new Steam Deck OLED features a 90Hz 7.4" OLED screen.

Valve will also be releasing a limited edition 1TB Steam Deck OLED which features a translucent design and is only available in Canada and the US.

According to Valve, the Steam Deck OLED has 30-40% more battery life.

"We fit a bigger battery into the case, and the OLED display draws less power. Combined with the updated, more efficient AMD APU, you have way more time to play your favorites."

The new Steam Deck OLED does not offer more hardware power and uses the same accelerated processing unit (APU) as the first Steam Deck. The only difference is the OLED APU is 6nm while the original Steam Deck's APU is 7nm. Valves says the new 6nm design allows for better efficiency.

The Steam Deck OLED will be available in two storage configurations: 512GB and 1TB, costing $689 CAD and $819 CAD respectively. The limited edition model will cost $859 CAD.

Valve also announced price reductions on the original LCD Steam Deck models which can be found below :

The 64GB model is now $439 CAD, previously $499 CAD.

The 256GB model is now $499 CAD, previously $659 CAD.

The 512GB model is now $559 CAD, previously $819 CAD.

The Steam Deck OLED is set to launch on Steam on November 16 at 1pm EST/10am PST.
